GrandCanyon

Paisano Pete the Roadrunner was quite a site, but I don't believe we've seen anything that can compare to the Grand Canyon.  We pulled over at nearly every viewing area and our jaws dropped further each time!  Automobile traffic is limited in the National Park's South Rim, and within a couple years, personal cars will be prohibited entirely, with the Park Service providing transportation.  The park buses were crowded but pleasant in the car-restricted areas we visited.  It was quite croweded, so we're glad we came before the tourist season began.  We were too early, however, to visit the less-crowded North Rim because the roads were still blocked by snow.

The Colorado River and Grand Canyon

Angela, Danny and Paul took a "short" hike that went literally down the side of a mountain. (Becky had an injured knee and could not take part.)  We had planned on a mule trip, but quickly found out that reservations would have had to be made 6-months or more in advance!

The snow-covered ledges look pretty, but
were actually steep ice-covered trails
we were forced to literally slide down in
order to begin our hike which started at
the top of this picture.  We were counting
on afternoon sun to make the way back
up a bit easier.

That's Angela way in the back, deciding
whether it's worth the risk of
sliding down the trail.

This is as far as we got, maybe only
1/4 of the way to the bottom.

The easy way back up!
(We had to walk & climb)
