Montreal 2008

We took a day trip from Burlington, Vt, North into Quebec to Montreal, then back down through New York and back to Burlington.  We were a bit worried about the language barrier but almost everything was in both French and English except electronic highway advisory signs which were in French only.

We toured two churches in Montreal.  The first was the "Notre Dame De Bon Secour" Church in Old Town.  This was a church attended by sailors.  The beautiful monument atop the church beckons to those at sea.
LaBasiliqueNotreDameChurch-14-web.jpg (294964 bytes) The second church we visited was even more beautiful.  The Notre Dame Basilica (below, right, left) was built beginning in 1824.  The photo to the left is in the church's "small" chapel.  It's filled with wood carvings (below), stone sculptures and art work.LaBasiliqueNotreDameChurch-WoodSculpture-web.jpg (222799 bytes) LaBasiliqueNotreDameChurch-16-web.jpg (224470 bytes)
